GM/CEO of National Theatre was Chairman and moderator today as “The Dynamics of Divination, Proverbs and Festivals as Functional Agencies in the Sustainable Development of Africa” were explored. The public lecture which held inside the University of Ilorin Auditorium , was organized by the Faculty of Arts.
Speakers at the event were able to establish the importance of culture and creative arts to the attainment of the SDGs. According to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. A.S Abubakar” This lecture is aimed at redirecting our mentality about culture as something that is not backward but rather something developmental”.
During his address to the gathering, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN the Vice Chancellor of Unilorin opined that “our culture defines us, whether we like it or not. We must find a way to re-energize ourselves as humans”.
The VC, Prof Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, reminded that Prof. Ododo, is a product of the University of Frist Choice which is Better by Far (Unilorin). ” Prof Ododo is not just a friend but my soulmate” The VC requested for a closer tie between the University and National Theatre and that the GM/CEO must visit them more.
The Chairman of the day, Prof Ododo spoke about how today was a home coming for him as Unilorin gave him his first degree. The GM/CEO said he has continued to give back to his Alma Mata with his Best Graduating Student Prize in Technical Theatre (Faculty of Arts) which has been on for years now. Prof Ododo presented books to the school library and a totem of the National Theatre.The audience of royal fathers, University dons, and students was serenaded by a befitting performance by students of the English Language Department.
