Very eventful Drummers Day 2025!!
HOST: the GM/CEO, National Theatre, Tola Akerele (Mrs.) on Saturday, 5th April 2025

It was a majestic gathering of royalties at the National Theatre on Friday, 4th April 2025, as we celebrated World Drummers Day. The GM/CEO of the National Theatre, Mrs. Tola Akerele, was the chief host, while Olori Amb. Dr. Temitope Enitan-Ogunwusi was the regal majesty for the day. Other traditional fathers, the AD of the National Troupe of Nigeria, Hajja Katume Bulama Gana, and renowned female drummer Ara, were also in attendance.

The event added significance as it coincided with the anniversary of the death of Chief Hubert Ogunde, the father of Nigerian theatre. In her opening speech, Mrs. Akerele invoked the spirit of Ogunde while paying tribute to the legendary man of theatre. Other speakers included the Olori Ooni and the AD of the National Troupe. The Olori Ooni presented awards to patrons.

Following the award presentations to patrons by Olori Ooni of Ife, a drum party ensued, where each member of the high table beat a drum assigned to them. The National Troupe provided rich entertainment, replete with drumming and dancing.
