The celebration themed Theatre, a beacon of hope and national rebirth doubled as the Thanksgiving celebration of the Lagos State chapter of the association.
The event which happened at the Queen Amina square of the National Theatre on the 27th of March had in attendance, theatre practitioners, staff and management of the National Theatre and theatre students from Nigerian higher institutions.
Speaking with National Theatre Media, the National President of the association Mr. Adeniran Makinde fta said the World Theatre Day is an idea of the International Theatre Institute but has been adopted by the association and is being celebrated in 7 of the 21 states chapters of the association.
The GM/CEO of the National Theatre Nigeria Mrs. Tola Akerele welcomed the association and assured them that while practitioners and the whole nation are eager for the National Theatre building to open, the government, staff and management of the National Theatre are doing everything to make that happen sooner rather than later.
During a round table session, the GM/CEO once again assured students of theatre and practitioners that it is the goal of all stakeholders to have plays hold inside the National theatre building again.
The program ended with a series of performances including a dance performance by the National Troupe of Nigeria
