Jul 17, 2025 10:00-4:00 PM • Aliyu Akwe Doma Hall
The University of Jos hosted the 2025 National Theatre Play Reading Series at the Aliyu Akwe Doma Indoor Theatre, bringing together students and faculty of the Department of Dramatic Arts and Film for a lively dramatization of The Chief Mourner by Dr. Iheanacho Iweha.
Representing National Theatre’s GM/CEO, Mrs. Adetola Akerele, Marketing Director Mr. Nduibusi Henry highlighted the series as a way of extending the Theatre’s reach and uniting Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage.
True to tradition, the event saw students perform with scripts in hand, blending the immediacy of live theatre with the intimacy of reading. Anchored by Dr. Victor Anyagu, the play explored Igbo burial customs and the disruptive influence of social media on family life, making the session both culturally rich and thought-provoking.
